WANA (Apr 24) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation on Thursday with his Indonesian counterpart, Sugiono, discussing bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

During the call, Araghchi emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation between Iran and Indonesia, describing both as key developing Islamic nations. He stressed the need for the implementation of previously agreed commitments and encouraged enhanced high-level engagement to advance mutual interests.

Addressing regional issues, Araghchi reiterated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s position on the ongoing crisis in West Asia, calling the continued occupation and killing of Palestinians the most pressing global concern. “The Zionist regime, backed fully by the United States and several Western countries, has turned Gaza and the West Bank into a scene of genocide and brutal torture against innocent Palestinians,” he said.

He further condemned the regime’s disregard for international legal rulings, noting that despite arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court and provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice to halt the genocide, the atrocities persist. Araghchi also criticized Israel’s continued aggression against Lebanon and Syria, alongside U.S. military actions in Yemen, which he said have pushed the region toward “unprecedented instability.”

He urged Islamic countries to step up efforts to halt these crimes and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the oppressed people of Palestine.

For his part, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Iran. He welcomed the proposals put forth for enhancing bilateral ties.

Echoing Araghchi’s concerns, Sugiono expressed support for the Palestinian people and underscored the urgent need for a collective effort by Islamic nations to achieve an immediate ceasefire and ensure the unimpeded flow of humanitarian assistance to Gaza and the West Bank.

He also thanked the Iranian foreign minister for sharing updates on the ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States. Sugiono expressed hope that all parties would remain committed to diplomacy and dialogue, leading to a constructive outcome.
