WANA (Aug 29) – Iran has been invited as a special guest to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) forum in Yerevan, Armenia, in October 2024.

This invitation, announced by EAEU Trade Minister Andrey Slepnev, highlights the growing importance of Iran’s relationship with the union.

During a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, both sides emphasized the priority of deepening cooperation, particularly with the EAEU, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

In January 2024, Iran signed a free trade agreement with the EAEU, which, once ratified, will allow 87% of Iranian exports to the union’s member states to be duty-free. This move is a significant step in Iran’s strategy to expand its regional economic ties.

Iran’s request for observer membership in the EAEU will be considered at the upcoming meeting of the union’s prime ministers.

The forum, set for September 30 – October 1, 2024, will gather top officials and business leaders, further underscoring Iran’s growing role in regional economic affairs.
