Iran Negotiates Transfer of 215 Detainees from Iraq and Malaysia
WANA (Dec 30) – Iran’s Deputy for Human Rights and International Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, Askar Jalalian, has announced negotiations with Iraqi and Malaysian officials to facilitate the transfer of 130 Iranian detainees from Iraq and 85 from Malaysia to Iran.
Askar Jalalian stated that the Ministry of Justice is consistently working to bring Iranian citizens incarcerated abroad back to their home country. “We are in ongoing efforts to negotiate with countries where Iranian nationals are held in prisons,” he said.
Jalalian also highlighted a recent achievement, stating that with the help of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they successfully communicated with Qatar and managed to secure the release of 10 Iranian detainees who had been held for over 20 years. “Five of them were transferred to Iran in the past few days, and another five will follow this week,” he confirmed.
Regarding the detainees in Iraq and Malaysia, Jalalian mentioned that recent negotiations have resulted in agreements to transfer 130 Iranian prisoners from Iraq and 85 from Malaysia to Iran. The process is expected to be implemented soon.
Finally, Jalalian provided an update on the “Bill for the Protection of Iranians Abroad,” noting that the draft law must be re-approved by both the new government and parliament. “The bill is currently awaiting review in the Parliament’s public sessions, and we urge the members to prioritize its discussion so it can be passed as soon as possible.”
