WANA (Dec 30) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi emphasized the importance of Syria’s territorial integrity, unity, and inclusive government during a joint press conference with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi in Tehran on Monday. He highlighted shared views between Iran, Oman, and many regional countries on fostering Syria’s independence and stability.

Speaking at the conference, Araghchi stated, “Our discussions covered Syria extensively. We agree on the necessity of preserving its territorial integrity, respecting all ethnicities and religions, and forming an inclusive government. Iran and Oman share significant commonalities on these issues and are united in supporting Syria’s independence and stability.”

The Iranian foreign minister praised the growing bilateral ties between the two nations, citing regional consultations and economic cooperation as key areas of progress. He revealed that the trade volume between Iran and Oman has tripled since 2020, reaching $2.5 billion last year. “The Iran-Oman Joint Economic Commission is scheduled to convene in Muscat next month,” he added.

On regional issues, Araghchi called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the opening of humanitarian aid corridors. Regarding Yemen, he condemned U.S. and Israeli strikes and stressed the need to maintain Yemen’s territorial integrity while resuming peace talks to avert further conflict.

Araghchi also addressed speculation about Oman facilitating messages between Iran and the U.S., saying, “Oman has historically played a constructive role in mediating, including during nuclear negotiations. However, no messages were exchanged during this visit. Necessary communications with the U.S. continue through the Swiss embassy.”

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi conveyed greetings from Oman’s leadership and emphasized the deep historical ties between the two nations. “It is an honor to deliver a written message from Sultan Haitham to the Iranian leadership, reaffirming the commitment to expanding bilateral relations and ensuring mutual benefits for both nations,” Al-Busaidi stated.

He highlighted discussions on facilitating trade, transportation, and political coordination regarding regional and international developments, particularly in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine.

Regarding Oman’s stance on Syria’s issue, he added “Oman, like Iran, supports non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations and Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international role.”

The two ministers reiterated their commitment to regional stability and enhancing cooperation for the benefit of their peoples.
