Iran on the Path to Strengthening Airpower Through Domestic and International Cooperation
WANA (Dec 10) – The Iranian Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics has highlighted the ministry’s commitment to fostering national and international cooperation in the aerospace domain. He stated, “We are fully prepared to collaborate with knowledge-based companies and various sectors of the country, and we will expand cooperation and interaction in this field.”
Speaking at the 12th Iran International Air Show, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh underlined the pivotal role of airpower in enhancing national strength. He remarked, “Airpower is a vital element of national power that cannot be confined solely to the military domain. It influences all aspects of national strength, including political, social, economic, and cultural dimensions.”
He added that countries worldwide are striving to enhance their geopolitical competitiveness through advancements in airpower. “Airpower is one of the primary factors in this competition and can significantly contribute to boosting a nation’s overall power,” he said.
Nasirzadeh elaborated on the multifaceted nature of airpower, stating, “Airpower operates on two structural levels: the development of advanced technologies in the aerospace industry—among the most complex technologies in the world—and the establishment of suitable infrastructure and aviation services. In this regard, Iran’s geographical location and its active air routes provide excellent opportunities to strengthen this sector.”
The minister also emphasized the importance of airport hubs, noting, “Airport hubs not only impact the economy but also play a fundamental role in shaping strategic plans and expanding air bases.”
He stressed the critical role of education in bolstering airpower, stating, “Training specialized human resources in the aerospace field is a cornerstone of success in this arena. Our country has performed well in this regard, producing professional and efficient personnel.”
Nasirzadeh highlighted the necessity of producing fuel for the domestic aviation fleet, saying, “Fuel production for aircraft is a primary need of the aerospace industry, and we have strong capabilities in this area.”
Addressing recent advancements in the aerospace field, he referred to emerging technologies, including micro-drones, UAVs, and quadcopters. “These technologies play significant roles not only in the military sphere but also in various other applications such as tourism,” he stated.
The defense minister reiterated the ministry’s readiness to cooperate with domestic knowledge-based companies and international entities, asserting, “We are fully prepared to enhance cooperation and interaction in this field.”
The 12th Iran International Air Show commenced on Kish Island, attended by the Minister of Defense, senior military officials, and industry representatives.
Running from December 10 to 13, 2024, this exhibition is the largest gathering in Iran’s aerospace sector. It hosts domestic and international companies, research centers, aerospace colleges, and knowledge-based enterprises.
The event features air displays, showcases the latest achievements in the aerospace industry, and provides a platform for exchanging knowledge and technology, contributing to the development of the country’s aerospace infrastructure.
