WANA (July 28) – On Sunday, Professor Rajiv Singh Rawat spoke at the closing ceremony of the 54th International Physics Olympiad held at Sheikh Bahai Hall of the Isfahan University of Technology. He announced that following China, the Russian team secured second place with four gold medals and one silver, Romania came third with three gold medals and two silver, and Iran placed fourth with one gold medal and four silver medals in both individual and group rankings.

 

He noted, “This year, we witnessed fierce competition among the top teams. The Iranian student team showed significant improvement compared to the previous year when they ranked seventeenth globally. One of Iran’s silver medals was earned with a very narrow margin from gold.”

 

The Secretary-General of the 54th International Physics Olympiad expressed satisfaction with the event’s organization at Isfahan University of Technology. He emphasized that the International Physics Olympiad provides a platform for young students to compete and fosters the deepening of scientific relations between countries worldwide.

 

The 54th International Physics Olympiad began last Monday at Isfahan University of Technology, hosting 198 elite students from 46 countries.

 

The International Physics Olympiad is held annually in various countries to highlight the growing importance of physics in numerous technological fields and general youth education, as well as to foster increased international cooperation.

 

The history of the International Physics Olympiad dates back over 50 years, with the first competition held in Poland, featuring five teams.

 

Iranian teams have been participating in the International Physics Olympiad for the past 36 years, consistently earning impressive medals since their debut.

Notably, Isfahan University of Technology hosted the International Physics Olympiad for the second time this year. The university also organized the 38th Olympiad 17 years ago.
