Iran Ready for Immediate Deal If U.S. Lifts Sanctions
WANA (May 15) – Ali Shamkhani, political advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, said Tehran is prepared to sign a nuclear agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump, provided Washington lifts all economic sanctions without delay.
“In exchange for the removal of all economic sanctions, Iran is committed to never producing nuclear weapons, altering its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, continuing enrichment at non-military levels, and allowing full access to inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” Shamkhani said in an interview.
He emphasized that a breakthrough remains possible if Washington acts in good faith. “It is achievable. If the U.S. behaves as it claims, we can certainly develop better relations. This could lead to an improvement in the situation,” he stated.
Highlighting what he described as contradictory signals from the U.S., Shamkhani remarked, “Trump talks about offering an olive branch, but what we see is only barbed wire.”
He reiterated Iran’s firm stance on uranium enrichment, noting that while enrichment itself is non-negotiable, “its level, amount, or form can temporarily change to build trust.”
Shamkhani also addressed Israel’s influence over U.S. foreign policy, particularly in the context of nuclear negotiations. “If the Americans can rid themselves of Netanyahu’s influence in Washington, an agreement with Iran is entirely attainable,” he said.
According to Shamkhani, Iran and the United States have already held four rounds of negotiations, and the current environment presents a real opportunity for progress.
“If the American side is sincere and lives up to its promises,” he concluded, “reaching an agreement and improving relations is entirely possible.”
The first round of these indirect negotiations between Iran and the U.S., mediated by Oman, was held on April 12 in Muscat, and the second round of talks took place in Rome on Saturday, April 19, again with Oman as the intermediary.
The third round of talks, which took place on Saturday, April 26, was also in Oman. Iran and the United States concluded their fourth round of indirect negotiations in Muscat on Sunday, May 11.
