Iran Reaffirms UN Charter Principles, Calls for Justice and Peace
WANA (Feb 26) – Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva has reiterated the country’s commitment to multilateralism, international law, and the principles of the UN Charter. Speaking at a high-level meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, he called for a world based on justice, respect, and peace.
Ali Bahreini, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stated: “At the high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of the UN Charter in Geneva, we reaffirmed our strong commitment to multilateralism, international law, and the principles of the UN Charter.”
He added: “As we approach the 80th anniversary of the signing of this Charter, let us work toward a world where justice, respect, and peace prevail over pressure and division.”
The meeting comes at a time when international institutions face challenges due to unilateral policies pursued by certain countries in recent years. Iran, a member of the group, has consistently emphasized the need to counter unilateral actions and efforts to weaken multilateral institutions by certain global players.
The Group of Friends of the UN Charter was established to strengthen multilateralism, uphold international law, and resist interventionist approaches and unlawful sanctions. Members of the group seek to reinforce the UN’s role in managing global crises and prevent its instrumentalization for political purposes.
As the UN Charter approaches its 80th anniversary, many nations continue to stress the need to uphold its fundamental principles. However, unilateral policies and extrajudicial actions by certain powers remain a significant challenge to the full implementation of these principles.
