Iran Rejects G7 Allegations as “Baseless and Irresponsible”
WANA (Feb 16) – Iran has strongly rejected the latest accusations by the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7), calling the claims “baseless and irresponsible.”
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, in a media statement, dismissed allegations that Iran is engaging in destabilizing activities in the region as “absurd.”
He pointed to the actions of G7 member states—particularly the United States, Canada, and three European countries—accusing them of providing military, financial, and political support to what he described as the “genocidal Zionist regime” while engaging in other military and political interventions in the region. He stressed that stability and security in West Asia can only be restored if these nations cease their interventionist policies.
Baghaei reaffirmed Iran’s legal right and responsibility to defend its people, territorial integrity, and national sovereignty against any threats or aggression.
He emphasized that the development of Iran’s military and defense capabilities aligns with international laws and norms and is essential for ensuring both national security and regional peace.
Addressing concerns over Iran’s nuclear program, the spokesperson rejected any doubts about its peaceful nature. He stated that Iran’s nuclear activities, including uranium enrichment, are in full compliance with international regulations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its Safeguards Agreement.
Baghaei also highlighted Iran’s longstanding initiative to establish a nuclear-weapon-free Middle East, asserting that the main obstacle to this goal is the Israeli regime. He accused Israel—backed by G7 nations—of continuing to expand its arsenal of weapons of mass destruction while committing acts of genocide in Gaza and launching attacks on neighboring countries, posing a serious threat to global peace and security.
The remarks follow an anti-Iran statement issued by G7 nations after an informal meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. According to the Russian news agency TASS, the G7 and the European Union condemned Iran’s regional influence, its nuclear activities, and its actions in the Red Sea.
The statement read: “G7 members strongly condemn Iran’s destabilizing activities, including its rapid uranium enrichment without credible civilian justification and its support for terrorist organizations and armed groups in the Middle East and the Red Sea.”
The G7 foreign ministers also accused Iran of human rights violations and condemned its ballistic missile program.
