Iran Rejects U.S. and U.K. Accusations at the UN Regarding Destabilization in the Region
WANA (Nov 23) – Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, dismissed accusations by the United States and the United Kingdom regarding destabilization in the region and involvement in the Ukraine conflict.
In a letter addressed to Barbara Woodward, the current President of the UN Security Council, Iravani firmly rejected the claims made during a Security Council meeting, stating, “The United States and the United Kingdom cannot absolve themselves of responsibility while enabling the crimes of the Israeli regime. Their unconditional support for Israel perpetuates conflicts and undermines the Security Council’s mission to maintain international peace and security.”
Iravani reiterated Iran’s unequivocal stance on Ukraine, emphasizing that the country’s position remains clear, consistent, and unchanged.
The letter full text is as follows:
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
This correspondence is in response to the baseless accusations made by the representatives of the United States and the United Kingdom at the United Nations Security Council public session on November 18, 2024, under the agenda item “The Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.”
In this meeting, the U.S. representative, in coordination with the Israeli regime, made a desperate attempt to deflect responsibility for their joint complicity in the ongoing genocidal war by Israel in Gaza and the regime’s war crimes in Lebanon by accusing Iran of destabilizing the region to advance its political agenda. These accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran are firmly rejected.
The United States, through its unconditional political, military, and financial support for the Israeli regime, bears direct responsibility for the instability in the region and the crimes committed against civilians in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.
It is an undeniable fact that the massacre of civilians, destruction, and devastation of infrastructure in Gaza and Lebanon are occurring with U.S.-made weapons and its unrelenting support, while repeated U.S. vetoes of ceasefire resolutions in the Security Council have shielded the Israeli regime from accountability.
Instead of promoting peace and security, the United States has paralyzed the Security Council and given Israel a free pass to continue its assaults and killings under the guise of self-defense and with full impunity; this is evident in the U.S. veto of the recent ceasefire resolution.
Similarly, we strongly reject the baseless accusations made by the UK Foreign Secretary in this session, accusing Iran of destabilizing the region. These unfounded claims are a blatant attempt to conceal the historical and ongoing role of the UK in creating instability and chaos in the region.
Britain’s colonial imposition during the Palestinian mandate, along with its calculated political engineering aimed at depriving the Palestinian people of their rights, laid the foundation for the injustices and atrocities we are witnessing today.
The UK played a central role in the establishment of the usurping Israeli regime and is directly complicit in the displacement, suffering, and oppression of the Palestinian people. The legacy of division and dispossession continues, exacerbated by the UK’s support for Israel’s violations of international law and its continuous provision of advanced weapons to this regime.
Therefore, the United States and the United Kingdom cannot absolve themselves while being complicit in the crimes of the Israeli regime. Their unconditional support for Israel fuels the continuation of the conflict and undermines the Security Council’s mission to maintain international peace and security.
Additionally, the similar accusations made by the representatives of these two countries against Iran concerning the conflict in Ukraine, which were raised on the same day during the Security Council’s public session under the agenda item “Maintenance of International Peace and Security in Ukraine,” are also firmly rejected. Iran’s position regarding Ukraine remains clear, consistent, and unchanged.
It would be appreciated if this correspondence is recorded and distributed as an official Security Council document.
