Iran Resumes Fruit Exports to Saudi Arabia
WANA (Dec 09) – Iran has resumed its fruit exports to Saudi Arabia, tapping into a market that offers opportunities comparable to its oil revenue in the agricultural sector.
The ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia have agreed to establish a joint agricultural committee on the sidelines of the 16th COP (Desertification) Conference. This committee will facilitate the resumption of fruit exports from Iran to Saudi Arabia.
In 2022, Saudi Arabia imported agricultural products worth approximately 111.65 billion Saudi riyals (around 29.4 billion USD), an amount roughly equivalent to Iran’s oil revenue.
Iranian products in high demand in the Saudi market include apples, citrus fruits, dried fruits, seafood, food industry products, and saffron.
According to FAO statistics, cereals, oilseeds, fruits, and vegetables are among the main imports of Saudi Arabia.
Iran is the largest producer of fruits in the Middle East.
