WANA (Apr 11) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the recent stance of Germany’s Foreign Office regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran, calling it “interventionist and hypocritical.”

Esmaeil Baghaei, referring to Germany’s continued misuse of human rights mechanisms to advance its political agenda against other countries, including Iran, criticized the joint move by Germany, the UK, and several other states to submit an anti-Iran resolution to the Human Rights Council. He described this action as part of their selective approach and double standards on human rights issues.

He stressed that Germany, as the second-largest supplier of weapons to the genocidal Israeli regime, is complicit in all the atrocities and gross violations of human rights and humanitarian law committed against the innocent people of Palestine and the region. Therefore, Germany lacks any moral or legal legitimacy to pose as a defender of human rights.

Baghaei also recalled the longstanding demand of the Iranian people for Germany to be held accountable for its active and deliberate involvement in the development of chemical weapons for Iraq’s former regime—a contribution that led to the deaths and injuries of numerous Iranian soldiers and civilians during the Iran-Iraq War. He advised German officials that if they are sincere in their claims about human rights and justice, they should agree to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s formal proposal to establish a joint fact-finding mechanism. This mechanism, which was officially submitted to the German embassy in Tehran some time ago, would aim to uncover the truth about the role of German companies and officials—both public and private—in arming Saddam’s regime with chemical weapons.
