Iran Slams Trump’s Remarks, Vows Legal Action at UN
WANA (Feb 11) – In response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest comments on negotiations with Iran and bombing Iran, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, strongly condemned Trump’s remarks and announced Tehran’s plan to pursue legal action through the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Trump, in a recent interview with Fox News, claimed his administration would have secured a new nuclear deal with Iran, alleging that Tehran is eager to negotiate. He reiterated his preference for a diplomatic resolution rather than military action by Israel, stating, “I’d rather have a deal with Iran—where we monitor, inspect, and ensure there’s no nuclear capability—than bombing them.
However, Trump did not elaborate on how he would improve the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), from which he unilaterally withdrew in 2018, branding it “the most foolish deal” and a “path to nuclear weapons.”
He also claimed that had the deal remained in place, it would have already expired by now. “It was a short-term agreement,” Trump argued, adding, “Iran had the legal right to nuclear weapons under it, and we cannot allow that.
Iran’s Response: A Legal Push at the UN
Reacting to Trump’s remarks, Gharibabadi took to social media to highlight the massive turnout of the Iranian people at the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, calling it a “firm response to U.S. threats.”
He stated that Iran would firmly safeguard its national security and interests and announced that Trump’s violations of international law and the UN Charter would be formally recorded at the UN Security Council as an official complaint.
