WANA (Apr 04) – Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva strongly criticized the adoption of an anti-Iran resolution by the UN Human Rights Council, calling it discriminatory and damaging to the council’s credibility.

During the presentation and adoption of Resolution L.20, titled “The Human Rights Situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran”, at the 58th session of the UNHRC, Ali Bahreini condemned the biased and unjustified monitoring mechanisms proposed in the resolution. He warned that this move would drag the council into further inefficiency and resource wastage, ultimately undermining trust in its work.

Referring to the catastrophic human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the impunity enjoyed by its perpetrators, Bahreini stated:

“While the most severe human rights violations are occurring systematically in Palestine, with the perpetrators enjoying the highest levels of immunity from accountability, the sponsors of Resolution L.20 are fabricating an illusionary narrative about Iran’s human rights situation to mislead the council.”

Emphasizing Iran’s civilizational legacy, he added: “As a country with a rich history and civilization, Iran takes pride in its contributions to humanity. We have faced many challenges and are no strangers to such pressures. We warn the sponsors of this resolution and the main players behind this puppet show to be accountable for their injustices against the Iranian people and humanity.”

The Iranian envoy further asserted that there is no justification for the provisions of this resolution, particularly the Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) mechanism, and Iran firmly rejects it.

He urged UNHRC member states to oppose this deceptive move and prevent the political exploitation of the council by certain countries.

At the end of the session, Bahreini invited attendees to a performance by the Iranian music group “Sorush Molana”, scheduled for Friday, April 4, 2025, at the UN headquarters in Geneva, marking the Nowruz celebrations.
