Iran Summons German Ambassador and UK Envoy
WANA (Mar 20) – The German ambassador and the UK chargé d’affaires in Tehran were summoned to Iran’s Foreign Ministry following the anti-Iranian actions of their respective governments in the UN Human Rights Council. The two countries had jointly submitted a draft resolution seeking to extend the mandate of the so-called fact-finding mission on Iran.
The officials were summoned by Forouzandeh Vadiati, Director General for Women and Human Rights at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, who conveyed Iran’s strong objection to the “irresponsible and provocative” stance taken by Germany and the UK.
During the meeting with the German ambassador, Vadiati condemned Germany’s historical role in supplying chemical weapons to Saddam Hussein’s regime during the Iran-Iraq war. She also criticized the instrumentalization of the Human Rights Council as a tool to exert pressure on the Iranian people.
In a separate session on Wednesday—coinciding with Iran’s Nationalization of the Oil Industry Day—Vadiati met with the UK chargé d’affaires.
She denounced Britain’s long history of interventionist policies in Iran and its continued anti-Iran stance at the Human Rights Council, calling such actions counterproductive. She warned that these policies undermine the credibility of UN-affiliated human rights bodies and erode international trust in them.
Furthermore, she accused both Germany and the UK of supporting Israel’s war crimes and genocide against Palestinians, as well as endorsing unilateral US sanctions against Iran. According to her, this disqualifies them from claiming to defend human rights.
Referring to remarks by the UK foreign secretary in parliament, Vadiati also pointed to Europe’s history of breaching commitments, including in the JCPOA (Iran nuclear deal), and its alignment with Washington’s maximum pressure campaign.
She emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program remains peaceful, under strict and unprecedented oversight by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and that baseless allegations driven by political motives do not alter the facts.
Both the German ambassador and the UK chargé d’affaires pledged to relay Iran’s concerns to their respective governments.
