WANA (Oct 15) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Hungarian ambassador in Tehran, representing the EU’s rotating presidency, in response to the European Union’s announcement of new sanctions against several Iranian entities and individuals on Monday.

During the meeting, Iran strongly objected to the EU’s decision, emphasizing that resorting to illegal and coercive measures, such as sanctions, is unacceptable and will not yield any results.

The Iranian side further highlighted that Iran’s defense and military cooperation with other nations is lawful and aimed at safeguarding its national interests and security, and will not allow third-party interference.

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister also criticized the EU for sanctioning Iranian airlines, calling it a clear violation of international law, including basic human rights and freedoms. He stated that this action contradicts the EU’s human rights claims.

In conclusion, the Iranian side urged the EU not to fall into the trap of anti-Iranian factions, particularly “the Zionist apartheid regime”, and not to jeopardize their long-standing relations with Iran for the sake of adversarial interests.

The Hungarian ambassador acknowledged the concerns and promised to relay them to EU officials.
