Iran to Hold Israel Accountable for Assassination of Iranian Woman in Lebanon
WANA (Oct 20) – Following the assassination of Iranian national Masoumeh Karbasi, a mother of five, and her Lebanese husband, Reza Abbas Awada, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement on Sunday strongly condemned what he described as a “brutal” assassination carried out by Israel.
Baghaei extended his condolences to their families and the people of Iran and Lebanon, honoring the couple’s legacy.
Referring to footage of the assassination, which took place in a civilian area on a busy street, Baghaei called Israel’s action a clear example of both terrorism and a war crime.
He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran will pursue the matter through all available channels to ensure that Israel is held accountable for its crimes.
The spokesperson paid tribute to Masoumeh Karbasi, highlighting her academic and media work in support of the resistance. He described her assassination as further evidence of Israel’s deep-seated hostility toward Iran.
Baghaei also urged international human rights organizations to speak out against this extrajudicial killing, which he framed as part of a broader campaign of genocide and violence in occupied Palestine and Lebanon.
