Iran Unveils Upgraded Bavar-373 as Pezeshkian Tours Defense Achievements
WANA (Feb 02) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian attended the unveiling ceremony of new defense and space achievements at the Imam Khomeini Space Center, where he reviewed the latest advancements made by the Ministry of Defense. During the visit, he emphasized that Iran’s defense capabilities are designed to deter any foreign aggression.
“Iran’s defense achievements will reach a level where no country dares to violate our sovereignty,” Pezeshkian stated. He praised the innovation and creativity of Iran’s youth, highlighting that these advancements stem from the dedication and expertise of Iranian scientists and engineers.
Strengthening National Defense
Reflecting on Iran’s past conflicts, particularly the Iran-Iraq War, Pezeshkian noted that Iran once faced unchallenged aerial and ground attacks. “There was a time when Iraq could attack our land at will. These new capabilities ensure that no country can act against Iran so easily anymore. Our advancements are solely for the defense of our nation, revolution, and sovereignty—not for aggression against others,” he reiterated.
Pezeshkian further stated that Iran’s technological developments continue to progress, placing the country among nations capable of operating beyond Earth’s atmosphere. “This is a testament to our scientific and executive power. Had we not pursued these advancements, we would still be dependent on foreign technologies. With our expanding defense and scientific capabilities, we will not only achieve self-sufficiency but also enter the global market for technology exports. I hope these advancements will also accelerate progress in cultural, social, and economic sectors.”

Showcasing the Upgraded Bavar-373 Air Defense System
During his visit to the Ministry of Defense’s Aerospace Organization exhibition, the upgraded Bavar-373 air defense system, known as Bavar 2-373, was publicly displayed for the first time. This follows a recent announcement by Ministry of Defense spokesperson General Talaei-Nik, who confirmed the successful development of an enhanced version of the system.
Newly released images reveal that the upgraded Bavar system now features independent fire control and tracking radars integrated into its launchers, allowing them to operate autonomously. Unlike the initial version, which relied on a central radar for target tracking and engagement, the new system significantly enhanced Iran’s air defense capabilities.
According to the displayed specifications, each Bavar 2-373 battery includes a dedicated detection radar and six radar-equipped launchers. This setup allows each launcher to engage hostile targets independently. Furthermore, if the system incorporates TEL (Transporter Erector Launcher) platforms without radars, its engagement capability will be significantly enhanced.
Bavar-373: A Growing Defensive Power
First unveiled in 2019, the initial version of the Bavar-373 system featured a detection range of 320 km, a tracking range of 260 km, and a missile engagement range of 200 km. However, with the integration of the Sayyad 4B missile, its operational range has been extended to 300 km. The system is also capable of tracking up to 60 targets simultaneously and engaging six at a time.
The latest upgrades signal Iran’s continued efforts to bolster its defense infrastructure, ensuring that its military remains resilient against potential threats while reinforcing its strategic deterrence capabilities.
