WANA (Sep 26) – Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, sharply criticized the UN Security Council and Israel’s actions during a high-level ministerial meeting on “Leadership for Peace.” He called for urgent global action to address the ongoing crisis.

Gharibabadi warned that global crises and the disregard for international law principles are becoming increasingly worrisome. He emphasized that impunity for serious violations of human rights is turning into a dangerous norm.

Addressing the situation in Gaza, he described it as an “unprecedented humanitarian disaster,” stating, “Gaza has become hell on earth, with over 42,000 civilians, including women and children, killed, and more than 93,000 injured.”

He also condemned Israeli attacks on Lebanon, labeling them a clear violation of international law, and stressed, “These attacks are not just against Lebanon but against all of humanity.”

Gharibabadi accused the Security Council of remaining silent in the face of such atrocities, claiming it has become a tool for some permanent members prioritizing their political and strategic interests over global peace. He particularly highlighted the repeated use of the U.S. veto to shield Israel, calling it a blatant misuse of power.

In conclusion, Gharibabadi urged the Security Council to take immediate action to halt Israeli crimes and protect civilians in Palestine and Lebanon. He called for unified leadership committed to the UN Charter to restore peace.
