WANA (Sep 14) – In response to a recent terrorist attack in the border region of Mirjaveh, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has called on the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to condemn the act and take necessary measures.

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Security Council President Samuel Žbogar, Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, condemned the terrorist attack carried out by the Jaish al-Adl group, which is linked to ISIS-K (Islamic State Khorasan Province).

Iravani highlighted the group’s history of violence against Iranian civilians and security forces and urged the Security Council to strongly condemn the brutal attack and take concrete actions in line with its commitments to combating terrorism.

The attack, which took place in the late hours of September 12, 2024, in the border city of Mirjaveh in Sistan and Baluchestan province, saw armed militants from Jaish al-Adl targeting an Iranian police vehicle at a gas station.

The assault resulted in the deaths of three Iranian police officers and the injury of a civilian. Jaish al-Adl later claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iravani reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to fighting terrorism and bringing the perpetrators of such attacks to justice. He also called on the Security Council to adopt a firm stance against these terrorist actions and strengthen international efforts in the fight against terrorism.

The letter further requested that it be officially registered as a document of the Security Council and the General Assembly under the agenda item “Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism.”
