Iran Warns U.S. Over New Sanctions
WANA (May 01) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while condemning Washington’s new sanctions, warned that “the responsibility for the consequences and destructive effects arising from the contradictory behaviors and provocative statements of the United States lies with the American side.”
Esmail Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on Thursday strongly condemned the new U.S. sanctions against individuals and entities in Iran and several other countries under the pretext of cooperation with Iran in various economic and commercial sectors.
Baghaei, referring to the continued hostile, illegal, and inhumane policies of the U.S. against the Iranian nation, described these unjust sanctions as a violation of fundamental principles and rules of international law, including human rights norms.
He stated: “The sanctions announced in recent days against Iranian and non-Iranian individuals and companies under various pretexts are a clear indication of the persistence of American policymakers in lawbreaking, violating the rights and interests of other countries, and their efforts to disrupt friendly and lawful relations among developing countries through economic terrorism.”
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also described these sanctions—designed within the framework of the failed and criminal policy of maximum pressure against the great Iranian nation—as yet another clear sign of the contradictory approach of American decision-makers and their lack of goodwill and seriousness in pursuing the path of diplomacy.
He stressed that the responsibility for the consequences and destructive effects arising from the contradictory behaviors and provocative statements of U.S. officials regarding Iran lies with the American side.
Baghaei, recalling the long history of U.S. hostility toward the Iranian people—including through economic sanctions and disrupting Iran’s path of scientific, economic, and technological development, which has caused deep mistrust and suspicion among Iranians toward the U.S.—emphasized the Iranian nation’s determination to stand against America’s policy of intimidation and pressure, and to use all available tools to continue Iran’s proud path of progress.
