Iranian Ambassador’s Account of the Leader’s Message and Putin’s Reply
WANA (Apr 20) – The Iranian Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, highlighted the significance of the message delivered by Iran’s Foreign Minister to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Jalali emphasized that the message covered a variety of aspects, and as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated, the core message was clear: Iran will continue its strong relations with its allies, and these ties will remain unaffected by ongoing negotiations or dialogues.
Jalali mentioned that the Supreme Leader had referred to certain areas in his message, which Putin also echoed. “President Putin reiterated several times during his meeting with Araghchi that Russia’s relationship with the U.S. will not influence its relationship with Iran. We consider our relationship with Iran to be extremely important. Our partnership was close before, but with the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Treaty, it has become fully strategic. We must expand our ties in all fields,” Jalali quoted Putin.
The Iranian Ambassador also recalled that during a follow-up meeting on Friday, April 18, 2025, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Lavrov mentioned that Putin had been very satisfied with the discussions and the exchange of messages. “I believe this was a productive dialogue,” Jalali said.
On Thursday, April 17, 2025, Foreign Minister Araghchi met with President Putin during the first day of his two-day visit to Russia, where he delivered the written message from Iran’s Supreme Leader. The next day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov hosted Araghchi for bilateral talks.
According to reports, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that President Putin, after receiving the message from the Iranian Supreme Leader, wished the best for Ayatollah Khamenei. Peskov responded to questions about the message, saying that Putin had asked Araghchi to convey his best wishes and a meaningful message to the Supreme Leader.
