WANA (Dec 06) – The foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq met and held discussions in Baghdad.

 

Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s foreign minister, who is visiting Baghdad, met with his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein, at the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

The discussions between the two ministers focused on the latest regional developments, including the situation in Syria.

 

Later today, a joint meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran, Iraq, and Syria is also scheduled to take place in Baghdad.

 

In a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated that Baghdad supports any initiative that promotes balance and stability in the region.

 

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement announcing that Fuad Hussein, who also serves as Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister, expressed Baghdad’s readiness to assist in achieving peace and reducing tensions.

 

He emphasized that events in Syria directly impact the security of both Iraq and Iran, necessitating coordinated efforts to ensure regional security and stability.

 

The Iraqi Foreign Minister highlighted that regional security cannot be achieved solely through military measures, underscoring the importance of diplomacy in resolving crises and fostering regional stability.

 

The statement further noted that the foreign ministers of Iran and Iraq discussed regional developments, particularly the situation in Syria, and expressed shared concern over the unfolding events in the country.

 

Both ministers stressed that the growth of terrorism in Syria poses a threat to the security of the entire region.
