WANA (August 04) – The Iranian animation In the Shadow of the Cypress received its third opportunity to compete for an Oscar after winning the Best Short Animation Award at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival.

 

The 28th edition of the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival concluded with awards for Best Short Film, Best Foreign Short Film, Best Short Animation, and Best Short Documentary, with the winners qualifying for the Academy Awards.

 

In the Shadow of the Cypress, a joint production by Shirin Sohani and Hossein Molayemi from Iran’s Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, has won numerous international awards.

 

The LA Shorts International Film Festival accepts films annually in the categories of short, mid-length, and student films. The student film category includes works created by students and even those made in schools. Films in the genres of fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental can compete in these sections, with awards given for the best in each category.

 

The winners of Best Short Film and Best Short Animation at the 2016 Oscars were selected from the LA Shorts Film Festival.
