WANA (Sep 30) – The Iranian women’s chess team refused to face Israeli players at the 45th Chess Olympiad, hosted in Hungary. The team, consisting of Mobina Alinasab, Setayesh Karimi, Tanaz Azali, Vesal Hamedi-Nia, and Parva Behdad Nazif, finished 37th in the overall rankings.

The team, which was leading Category B up until the penultimate round, could have secured the gold medal in this category with a victory in the final round, but due to their refusal to face the Israeli team, this did not happen.

Despite this, all players on the Iranian team improved their international ratings. Setayesh Karimi stood out, increasing her rating by 100 points and achieving her first women’s international norm with her impressive performance.
