WANA (Sep 09) – The Deputy Minister for Legal and International Affairs of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “the assassination of the head of Hamas’ political office in Tehran is yet another indication of the terrorist nature of the Israeli regime.”

Reza Najafi, Iran’s Deputy Minister for Legal and International Affairs, attended the 62nd Annual Meeting of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 9, 2024, where he delivered a speech outlining Iran’s positions and views on various international legal issues.

Najafi highlighted the importance of multilateralism in international relations and emphasized the role that Asian and African countries can play in advancing multilateral initiatives and activities.

Referring to the threat posed by terrorism, Najafi added, “The success of the international community in combating terrorism depends on the rule of law, effective international cooperation, and the strengthening of multilateralism.”

The Terrorist Nature of the Zionist Regime

Najafi, referencing the regional AALCO conference on counter-terrorism held in Tehran earlier this year, stated, “Asian and African countries share common concerns when it comes to combating terrorism.”

He added, “Unfortunately, just weeks after the regional AALCO conference, we witnessed the assassination of the head of Hamas’ political branch, Martyr Ismail Haniyeh, by the Zionist regime. This heinous act is yet another sign of the terrorist nature of the Israeli regime.”

Recognition of Israeli Apartheid Against Palestinians by the ICJ

In another part of his speech, the Deputy Foreign Minister addressed violations of international law in Gaza, saying, “Despite various rulings by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and calls from a significant portion of the international community to halt genocide and crimes of occupation, the Israeli regime continues to murder children and civilians with even greater impunity and brutality.”

Najafi also referred to the ICJ’s advisory opinion on the ongoing occupation of Palestine, noting, “The ICJ not only condemned the continued occupation of Palestine and crimes against the Palestinian people as violations of international law, but it also recognized the perpetration of apartheid and discrimination against Palestinians by the Zionist regime.”

The Deputy Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of addressing the legal aspects of information and communication technologies, urging cooperation between Asian and African countries to combat and prevent cybercrimes.
