Iranian FM: Iran and Resistance Groups Stand Firmly Behind Syria
WANA (Dec 02) – Tehran will provide all necessary support to Syria, emphasized Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, upon arriving in Ankara.
Speaking to reporters, Araghchi described his recent trip to Damascus as highly productive, highlighting detailed discussions with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on regional developments.
“The situation is challenging,” Araghchi acknowledged, “but the spirit of resistance and steadfastness is evident in the Syrian government as they confront the recent plots by Takfiri terrorists.”
He reiterated Iran’s unwavering support for Syria, stating: “The Islamic Republic of Iran stands fully behind President Assad, the Syrian people, army, and government. There have been tougher times in the past, such as during the ISIS-led civil war, but Syria overcame those challenges. Now, some groups believe the current regional unrest presents an opportunity to advance their agendas. This is a miscalculation. Syria’s army and government, with the help of resistance groups and Iran’s support, are fully capable of facing these threats.”
Araghchi announced plans for an in-depth meeting with Turkey’s Foreign Minister during his visit to Ankara. “We share mutual concerns that require discussion,” he noted, adding that while Iran and Turkey align on some regional issues, differences persist that need resolution through dialogue.
“Our goal is to reach a common understanding on regional matters that fosters stability,” he stated, warning against allowing Syria and the region to again become a haven for terrorists.
Araghchi’s trip follows his Sunday visit to Damascus, where he delivered Iran’s clear message of solidarity and support to President Assad, reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to Syria’s sovereignty and resistance.
