WANA (August 10)The Iranian tech firm, Electronic Afzar Azma, recently awarded the “Gazelle of Knowledge-Based Companies” by the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, has achieved a significant milestone by designing and producing dozens of electronic measurement devices that meet international standards.

Founded in 1980 by graduates of Sharif University of Technology, the company began by creating turnkey solutions for educational and research labs in electricity, electronics, and telecommunications.

Since 2001, Afzar Azma has expanded into producing advanced digital electricity meters, employing 600 people and reaching an annual production capacity of 6 million meters.

The company has also localized the technology for smart meters, fully developed in-house without any foreign licensing. Over 16 million meters have been installed in Iran and other countries, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and self-sufficiency.

Afzar Azma’s export efforts have also been successful, with nearly 900,000 advanced meters shipped to 25 countries, generating $3 million in revenue last year.

The company is now targeting new markets, including Venezuela, Oman, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan. Their products, comparable to American and European standards but priced competitively with Asian alternatives, have strong export potential.

Previously, Malaysia dominated Iran’s electricity meter market, but Afzar Azma’s locally developed meters, offering three times the efficiency at one-fifth the cost, have disrupted the market. The Iranian Ministry of Energy has recognized the company for its contribution to the industry.
