Iranian Red Crescent Calls for International Support Amid Israeli Attacks
WANA (Oct 16) – In a recent online meeting with Kate Forbes, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Dr. Pirhossein Kolivand, head of Iran’s Red Crescent Society, stressed the urgent need for international support for humanitarian efforts in war-torn Syria and Lebanon.
He announced plans to present evidence of violations of humanitarian law by the Israeli regime, particularly concerning an attack on an Iranian Red Crescent field hospital, at the upcoming International Red Cross and Red Crescent Conference in Geneva.
During this online meeting, Kolivand highlighted the devastation inflicted on Lebanon’s populace due to Israeli bombardments, resulting in widespread displacement and injuries.
He noted that Iran’s Red Crescent has provided Lebanon with food, medical supplies, and other essential items via airlift. However, he criticized the Israeli regime for obstructing rescue efforts by humanitarian organizations, including the Red Cross.
He further reported that Israel had ordered the evacuation of eight hospitals in Lebanon, prohibiting any patients from being treated there.
To aid the displaced, the Iranian Red Crescent has set up a 57-bed field hospital at the Syrian-Lebanese border, which was unfortunately destroyed by a missile strike, alongside critical supplies.
Kolivand emphasized the need for a secure corridor for humanitarian aid and urged senior Red Cross representatives to visit Lebanon to witness the dire situation firsthand.
He reiterated that attacks on humanitarian organizations must be condemned and urged the International Federation of Red Cross to amplify Iran’s voice in international forums.
