WANA (Sep 09) – The World Taekwondo Federation has released its latest Olympic rankings, highlighting a significant achievement for Iran’s taekwondo champions. Following their success at the Paris Olympics, all four Iranian representatives have climbed to the top ranks in the global standings.

According to the new regulations set by the World Taekwondo Federation, qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics has been divided into two phases. The first phase runs from June 2024 to June 2025, while the second phase, which is more critical for securing Olympic spots, spans from June 2025 to June 2027, concluding just before the qualification process ends.

The Federation’s ranking system was reset on May 30, 2024, and following the accumulation of points from several international competitions and the Olympics, Iran’s four Olympic medalists ascended to the top of the rankings.

Arin Salimi, who secured a gold medal at the Olympics, has won 200 points. Mehran Barkhordari, competing in the 80kg weight class, and Nahid Kiani, in the 57kg weight class, achieved silver medals, placing them second in the rankings with 120 points each. Mobina Nemat Zadeh, who earned a bronze medal, is tied for third place with 72 points alongside Lena Stekovic from Croatia.

Since taekwondo points were reset a month before the Olympics, athletes who secured gold, silver, and bronze medals in various weight classes are now leading the rankings.
