Iranian Tech Firm Develops Advanced Gas Detection Kits
WANA (Dec 29) – In a significant technological breakthrough, innovators at one of Iran’s leading knowledge-based companies have developed advanced gas detection kits.
Joining the ranks of Germany and Japan, Iran has now become the third country to master the technical know-how for manufacturing these kits, which combine affordability and precision for rapid gas detection in the oil, gas, and mining industries. The company is now pivoting towards exporting these kits.
The company, established in 2016 by a group of specialists and university professors, is the largest producer of advanced equipment and fully automated spectrometry and analysis devices in Iran. Its products serve various academic, research, and industrial centers domestically and internationally.
The company operates across five main domains:
- Optical System and Device Design
- Optoelectronics and Online Analyzers
- Laboratory Reagent Production
- After-Sales Services
- Consulting, Repairs, and Industrial and Academic Optics Projects
Key Products and Applications
Mohammad Javad Kargar, the CEO, described the company’s focus on manufacturing analysis devices and related chemical materials for industries such as oil, gas, petrochemicals, water treatment, environmental monitoring, and mining. Among the company’s flagship products are spectrophotometers, online COD analyzers, portable spectrophotometers, and consumable chemicals.
The company’s latest innovation, gas detection kits or “Detector Tubes,” has drawn particular attention. These kits provide a fast, simple, and accurate method for measuring target gases. Using a specialized pump, the detector tubes analyze the air for toxic gas concentrations, enabling efficient and precise measurements.
“These kits are designed as sealed vials that function similarly to ampoules. They break at both ends and fit into a simple pump. Air is drawn in through one side and expelled through the other, allowing for the detection of gases and environmental parameters,” Kargar explained.
Kargar emphasized the technical sophistication of these kits, stating, “99% of the product’s complexity is rooted in high-level technical knowledge.” The design and functionality of these kits make them a rare achievement, as they require advanced know-how to produce.
Critical Use Cases
Kargar highlighted the importance of these kits in industries like oil, gas, and petrochemicals. For instance, during refinery or petrochemical plant restarts after shutdowns, gas levels in pipelines and workspaces must be quickly analyzed. Traditional laboratory methods are time-consuming and costly, whereas the detector tubes deliver results in seconds, reducing costs and operational delays.
The kits also play a vital role in mining, where they help prevent accidents by identifying hazardous gases.
A Global Competitor
Kargar emphasized that Iran is the only producer of these high-tech kits outside Germany and Japan, noting that even China lacks the technical expertise to manufacture them.
“Our kits are 50% cheaper than their German and Japanese counterparts, giving us a competitive edge in the global market,” Kargar said. Initial exports to Oman and the UAE have received a positive response, signaling strong demand in the Gulf region.
This achievement underscores Iran’s growing capacity for innovation and high-tech manufacturing, positioning the country as a global player in advanced industrial solutions.
