WANA (August 12) – In a letter to the United Nations Security Council, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, rejected the baseless accusations made by the United States, calling the country the main supporter and promoter of terrorism both in the region and internationally.

In the letter addressed to the President of the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General, Iravani wrote: “This letter follows the UN Security Council’s open meeting on August 8, 2024, on the topic of ‘Threats to International Peace and Security Caused by Terrorist Acts.’

During this session, the U.S. representative, in response to the statements by the representative of the Russian Federation, deviated from the agenda and made unfounded, misleading, and false accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding support for terrorism in the region.”

He added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly rejects and condemns these baseless accusations and the irresponsible behavior of the U.S. representative. It is evident that the United States, not the Islamic Republic of Iran, is the primary supporter and promoter of terrorism both in the region and globally.”

Iravani further stated, “It is absurd and shameful that the United States accuses the Islamic Republic of Iran while simultaneously acting as a staunch supporter of the Israeli regime, backing its genocide, and providing vast amounts of weapons to the Zionists to prolong the terror and massacre of innocent Palestinian people, including children and women, in Gaza.”

He noted, “The latest crime by the Israeli regime against defenseless civilians at the Al-Tabi’in School in central Gaza on August 10, 2024, which led to the martyrdom of at least 100 innocent Palestinians, including children and women, is a direct result of the U.S.’s unconditional support.”

In the letter, Iravani wrote: “Furthermore, the U.S. support for UN-listed terrorist groups like Jabhat al-Nusra in its occupied territories in the Syrian Arab Republic is a blatant violation of the UN Charter, international law, and relevant Security Council resolutions, further proving that the United States is the primary supporter of terrorism in the region.”

According to Iravani, with such a dark history, the United States has no standing to accuse or preach to other UN member states.
