WANA (Jan 27) – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, highlighted the pivotal role of Afghanistan’s Shia scholars and the Shia community in advancing the nation’s scientific, cultural, and religious growth. He emphasized that fostering harmonious and brotherly relations among Afghanistan’s diverse ethnic and religious groups is essential for building a secure and progressive society.

 

During his visit to Kabul for talks with officials of Afghanistan’s interim government, Araghchi met with members of Afghanistan’s Shia Scholars Council to discuss issues of mutual interest.

 

In the meeting, Araghchi outlined the foreign policy priorities of Iran’s 14th administration, stressing the country’s determination to expand relations with Afghanistan across economic, trade, and cultural domains.

 

The Shia Scholars Council expressed gratitude for Iran’s decades-long support in hosting Afghan nationals, providing education, and facilitating their livelihoods over the past 45 years. They underscored the importance of maintaining and strengthening the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.

 

The council also welcomed the growing relations between Iran and Afghanistan, noting that closer bilateral ties serve the interests of both nations. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of enhancing scholarly and cultural exchanges between Shia and Sunni scholars from both countries, describing it as a critical step toward fostering Islamic unity.
