Iran’s FM Warns of Decisive Response to Nuclear Site Attacks
WANA (Jan 28) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has issued a warning regarding potential attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities. In an exclusive interview with Sky News, he stated, “We have explicitly said that any attack on our nuclear sites will be met with an immediate and decisive response. However, I don’t believe anyone would engage in such madness, as it would turn the entire region into a catastrophic disaster.”
His comments come amidst U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks suggesting that a “good deal” with Iran could be achieved. Araghchi responded skeptically, asserting, “It is clearly not enough, and the current situation is far more difficult than before.”
Trump unilaterally exited the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in 2018, calling it flawed, and reinstated sanctions that had been lifted under the agreement. His administration also implemented a “maximum pressure campaign,” adding new sanctions on Iran.
When asked about the possibility of fresh negotiations with the U.S., Araghchi emphasized that rebuilding trust would require significant actions. “The current situation is different and much tougher than before,” he explained. “The other side must do a great deal to rebuild our trust. So far, all we’ve heard is the word ‘good,’ which is evidently insufficient.”
In response to Sky News correspondent Dominic Waghorn’s question on whether Iran would give Trump a chance to speak, Araghchi replied, “Yes, of course.” He added, “If he approaches us with respect and says the right things, we will decide. I’m not saying we reject everything he says outright.”
Araghchi also criticized Trump’s controversial idea to relocate Gaza’s population to other countries temporarily or permanently under the guise of reconstruction. Sarcastically referring to Trump’s interest in purchasing Greenland, he suggested, “Instead of relocating Palestinians, why not expel Israelis and send them to Greenland? That would kill two birds with one stone.”
Finally, addressing the impact of conflicts with Israel on regional resistance groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, Araghchi noted, “Hamas and Hezbollah have suffered. However, they are rebuilding themselves because, as I’ve said before, this is a movement of thought, an ideology, and a goal that will always persist.”
Araqchi: The #US and #Israel must be insane to think about attacking #Iran ‘s #nuclear facilities.
