WANA (Oct 19) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the European Council’s recent accusations at this summit’s conclusion and described the allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran as “false and misleading.”

EU leaders accused Iran of providing ballistic missiles to Russia for use in the Ukraine war during their meeting in Brussels on Thursday.

Baghaei rejected the claims that Iran had sold ballistic missiles to Russia, reaffirming that since the onset of the Ukraine conflict, Iran has opposed the war and emphasized the need to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all nations. He reiterated Iran’s call for a diplomatic solution to resolve the Russia-Ukraine dispute.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also defended Iran’s right to engage in defense and military cooperation with other countries under international law, and labeled the European Council’s interference in these matters as “unacceptable.”

Baghaei went on to criticize European countries for providing arms to the Israeli regime, which he said are used to commit war crimes and gross violations of humanitarian law. He stressed that these governments bear international responsibility for their “complicity” in such atrocities.

He further highlighted the legitimacy of armed struggles by nations under colonial, apartheid, or occupation regimes to achieve self-determination, as recognized by international law.

Baghaei affirmed Iran’s support for Palestinian and Lebanese resistance against occupation and apartheid, asserting that it aligns with established international legal norms, and urged the European Council not to sacrifice these principles for its unlawful and immoral support of the occupying entity.

Finally, Baghaei expressed regret over the European Council’s mischaracterization of Iran’s missile operation (Operation True Promise 2) on October 1 against the Israeli regime, emphasizing that this action was defensive, lawful under Article 51 of the UN Charter, and intended to safeguard regional peace and security like Operation True Promise 1.
