WANA (Oct 02) – Following Iran’s missile strikes on Israel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a statement.

The full text of the Statement is as follows:

The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in exercising their inherent right to self-defence as enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, launched missile strikes on Israeli military and security targets on the evening of Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

This action was in response to the aggressive acts of the Zionist regime, including violations of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the assassination of the head of Hamas’ political bureau in Tehran, who was an official guest of the Iranian government, and the killing of Hezbollah’s secretary-general and General Nelfroshan, a senior Iranian military advisor, in Beirut.

Iran’s recourse to its right of self-defence, following prolonged restraint, reflects its responsible approach to regional and international peace and security at a time when the Zionist apartheid regime continues its illegal actions and genocidal campaigns against the Palestinian people, along with repeated military aggressions against Lebanon and Syria.

Unlike the Zionist regime, which has consistently targeted innocent civilians and civilian infrastructure as legitimate objectives, the Islamic Republic of Iran, adhering to ethical principles and the teachings of Islam and in full compliance with the principle of distinction under international humanitarian law, has solely targeted Israeli military and security facilities in its defensive missile operations.

The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes the responsibility of Israel’s supporters and its financial and military backers to halt the reckless actions of the regime’s leaders and warns against any involvement of third parties.

Iran also calls for immediate and meaningful action from the United Nations Security Council to prevent further threats to regional and international peace and security by the Israeli regime.

Iran remains fully prepared to take further defensive actions, if necessary, to protect its legitimate interests and defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty against any acts of aggression or illegal use of force, and will not hesitate to do so.
