Iran’s Government Spokesperson: U.S. Elections Will Not Affect Iranian Livelihood
WANA (Nov 06) – Fatemeh Mohajerani, Iran’s Government Spokesperson, addressing reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting, stated that Iran remains unconcerned about a possible Trump re-election, emphasizing that there is no significant difference between the two main U.S. presidential candidates, Trump and Biden. “Our plans are in place regardless of who leads the United States,” she noted, adding that Iran has become resilient through decades of sanctions and is prepared to counter any new ones.
In response to Commander Kowsari’s recent remarks on potential actions against Israel, she clarified that Iran’s president, who chairs the National Security Council, would formally announce any decision by the council.
She also commented on recent developments, including the case of Jamshid Sharmahd. Mohajerani confirmed that updates on Sharmahd’s status, including reports of his death, are being provided by the judiciary.
Regarding environmental issues, she confirmed Iran’s President’s participation in the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Baku (COP29 conference), where leaders will address climate change impacts, including recent severe flooding in Europe. She noted the importance of discussions on environmental degradation and fossil fuel consumption at the summit, where bilateral meetings are also planned.
Mohajerani also dismissed speculation about the President’s attendance being affected by a potential appearance from the Israeli Prime Minister, emphasizing that Iran’s national interests remain the top priority.
Commenting on the recent incident at the University of Science and Research, Mohajerani stated that the initial university action was unrelated to the dress code but concerned a student taking photos in class. She noted that while public decency is universally upheld, the response was moderate, involving social services for the student’s transfer, not a punitive measure.
