WANA (Dec 22) – A member of Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission revealed that indirect messages have been sent to Syrian armed opposition groups through some Astana member states and Arab countries. These messages emphasized the importance of safeguarding Iran’s embassy and holy sites, including the shrines of Lady Zainab (SA), Lady Sakina (SA), and Lady Ruqayya (SA).

Yaqub Rezazadeh explained, “Our main concern, following recent developments in Syria, is the protection of national interests, the holy shrines, and our embassy. Indirect communications have been made, and assurances have reportedly been given to prevent harm to these locations.”

Rezazadeh acknowledged a recent attack on Iran’s embassy in Syria but clarified that it did not result in serious damage. He noted that Iran’s calls for security were conveyed through diplomatic channels involving regional and Astana member states.

Regarding the broader regional situation, Rezazadeh criticized Israel’s military actions in Syria as “barbaric and criminal.” He expressed concerns over possible escalations in Lebanon, saying, “We are worried about renewed attacks on southern Lebanon and its Muslim population. Our efforts aim to prevent serious harm to neighboring countries, particularly Lebanon, the shrine of Lady Zainab (SA), and our embassy.”

This cautious diplomacy underscores Iran’s strategic focus on maintaining stability in the region while ensuring the security of its key religious and diplomatic assets.
