Iran’s Response to Arab League Statement on the Three Iranian Islands
WANA (May 19) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry firmly rejected the claims made in the final communiqué of the Arab League Summit in Baghdad regarding the three Iranian islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa.
On Monday, May 19, Esmail Baghaei emphasized that the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa are an inseparable part of Iranian territory. He stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers any claim to the contrary as a violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law, which emphasize respect for territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and the principle of good neighborliness. He added that raising such issues in the final statement of the Arab League summit is unacceptable.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson advised the Arab League to refrain from baseless claims, take into account the unchangeable historical and geographical realities in shaping its positions, and work towards promoting understanding and stronger relations among regional countries.
