Iran’s Response to the IAEA Resolution: Deployment of a Significant Set of New Advanced Centrifuges
WANA (Nov 22) – The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), in response to the anti-Iranian resolution passed by the IAEA Board of Governors, issued orders for effective measures, including the deployment of a significant set of new and advanced centrifuges of various types.
A joint statement by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran was released regarding the unjustified resolution passed by the IAEA Board of Governors concerning Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
The statement reads as follows:
In the final hours of the IAEA Board of Governors meeting on November 21, 2024, under pressure and insistence from three European countries and the United States, and despite lacking support from nearly half of the member states, a non-consensus resolution on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program was adopted.
The principled policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been based on constructive engagement with the IAEA within the framework of rights and obligations outlined under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement (CSA).
The current administration, since its inception, has pursued this policy by continuing and enhancing cooperation with the agency to resolve mutual issues.
As part of this principled approach, Iran welcomed the visit of the IAEA Director General to Tehran and made necessary arrangements to facilitate further interactions and ensure the success of the visit.
The Director General’s visit to Iran, his meetings with senior officials of the Islamic Republic, his inspection of the Shahid Dr. Ali-Mohammadi and Shahid Engineer Ahmad Roshan enrichment complexes, and the negotiations held during the visit provided a suitable foundation for strengthening Iran-IAEA interactions.
Despite this, three European countries and the U.S.—with a history of reneging on commitments, including under the JCPOA, and resorting to oppressive sanctions and unlawful pressure against the Iranian nation—chose not to support the constructive atmosphere created between Iran and the agency. Without even waiting for the results of the Director General’s visit, they pursued an adversarial and unjustified approach by submitting a resolution against Iran at the Board of Governors. This resolution did not gain the support of half of the board members, indicating their opposition to the political and destructive approach of its sponsors.
This politicized, unrealistic, and destructive behavior undermines the positive atmosphere and the agreements achieved. Such an action, especially at a time when Iran and the IAEA were on a path of constructive engagement, once again proves that the three European countries and the U.S. are insincere in their claims about preserving the agency’s credibility, using Iran’s nuclear issue merely as a pretext to advance their illegitimate goals.
The competent authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran at various levels had previously warned that any confrontational actions or misuse of the IAEA Board of Governors to further illegitimate and political objectives would elicit a reciprocal response from Iran. The specifics of Iran’s potential response had also been communicated to the IAEA Director General in advance.
Accordingly, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has ordered the implementation of effective measures, including the activation of a significant set of new and advanced centrifuges of various types.
It is evident that these actions are aimed at safeguarding national interests and further advancing the peaceful nuclear industry in line with Iran’s growing national needs, all within the framework of Iran’s rights and obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement.
At the same time, technical and safeguards cooperation with the IAEA will continue as before, within the framework of the CSA.
In conclusion, the Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirms its readiness for constructive engagement with relevant parties based on international legal principles and standards. Iran remains committed to protecting the rights and interests of the great Iranian nation and to advancing its indigenous and peaceful nuclear program with determination.
