WANA (Nov 07) – At a UN General Assembly session, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, urged the international community to suspend Israel’s membership in the UN General Assembly, accusing it of blatant violations of the UN Charter and international law.

Speaking during the session to discuss the report of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Iravani expressed Iran’s deep concern over the dire humanitarian situation of Palestinian refugees, particularly in Gaza.

He acknowledged UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini for his leadership and efforts to ensure the agency’s financial stability and operations.

Iravani stated that Israel should face international pressure to respect international law and cease its occupation and aggressive policies, warning that failure to do so will continue to endanger global peace and security.

He condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza as a “deliberate use of starvation as a weapon against the Palestinian people,” escalating the humanitarian crisis and creating unbearable conditions.

Highlighting UNRWA’s essential role in aiding Palestinian refugees, Iravani criticized Israel’s Knesset for recent measures targeting UNRWA’s operations, calling them an attempt to deprive Palestinians of basic services like education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid.

He also emphasized that for a just solution to the Palestinian issue, Israel must cease its occupation and aggressive policies, allowing for unrestricted humanitarian access to Palestinian territories.

Iravani concluded by urging the international community to adopt strong measures in response to Israel’s actions, asserting that Israel’s conduct constitutes a direct threat to international peace and security.
