WANA (July 30 ) – On Monday, the Iranian Mission to the United Nations in New York responded to questions regarding U.S. intelligence officials’ claims that Iran aims to disrupt the upcoming U.S. elections and negatively impact the campaign of Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for the 2024 elections.

The Iranian Mission to the United Nations in New York dismissed recent reports alleging Iran’s involvement in a plot to assassinate former President Donald Trump. The Mission stated, “These accusations are baseless and biased. From Iran’s perspective, Trump is a criminal who should be tried and punished for ordering the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani. Iran has chosen a legal path to hold him accountable.”

The reports emerged after CNN claimed that U.S. intelligence officials had uncovered a possible Iranian plan to kill Trump. However, CNN’s report also noted that this alleged plot was not connected to an attempted assassination by Thomas Matthew Crooks during a Pennsylvania rally. According to CNN, information from a human source led to increased security measures around Trump in recent weeks.

Trump, who has been criticized by many politicians inside and outside the United States for his belligerent statements, released a video of Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel. In the video, Netanyahu claimed that Iran had threatened to assassinate Trump. He then stated that if such an attack were to occur, he would want to retaliate by targeting Iran.

In a social media post, Trump wrote: “If they ‘assassinate Trump,’ which is always a possibility, I hope America wipes Iran off the face of the earth.” If this does not happen, America’s leaders will be considered “will-less” cowards.

Americans will vote on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, to elect the next president of the United States. The winner will begin a four-year term as president from January 2025.
