WANA (Jan 28) – Iran’s representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has dismissed accusations made by the Israeli President, calling them “baseless allegations that are part of a deliberate and ongoing effort to conceal Israel’s blatant violations of international law and its destructive activities against regional countries.”

In a letter addressed to the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, and the President of the General Assembly, Iravani stated that the letter was a response to “the groundless and provocative accusations made against the Islamic Republic of Iran by the President of Israel during the Holocaust Memorial Ceremony at the UN General Assembly on January 27, 2025.”

Iravani wrote, “The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically and unequivocally rejects such unfounded claims, which serve no purpose other than to divert the international community’s attention from the heinous crimes committed by this apartheid regime against the people of Palestine, particularly in Gaza. These baseless allegations are a deliberate and sustained effort to obscure Israel’s ongoing violations of international law and its destructive activities against countries in the region.”

The letter continued: “Undoubtedly, the Israeli regime is not a threat to Iran alone but remains the primary and persistent threat to regional and international peace and security. Beyond the genocide and crimes against humanity committed against the Palestinian people, Zionism continues its relentless aggression against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon and Syria, actions that are clear violations of the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions. These illegal actions constitute gross violations of international law and further destabilize the already fragile region.”

Iravani urged the international community not to allow Israel’s deliberate attempts to divert attention from its crimes and destabilizing actions to undermine regional peace, stability, and global efforts for justice and accountability. He called on the UN Security Council to hold Israel accountable for its crimes and to take decisive measures to ensure adherence to international law.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog had previously claimed that Iran posed a threat to countries around the world, particularly the United States and Israel.
