Israeli Settler Convicted of Collaborating with Iran
WANA (Dec 30) – Media sources report that an Israeli settler from Ashkelon in southern occupied territories has been convicted of collaborating with Iran’s intelligence services for espionage.
The convicted individual, identified as Moti Maman, admitted to having made contact with Iranian intelligence officials and meeting with them in Iran.
The indictment, which the defendant reportedly confessed to, states that Maman traveled to Iran twice to meet with Iranian agents and discuss possible operations within Israel.
The indictment also claims that Iranian agents discussed the assassination of high-profile Israeli figures with Maman, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar.
The Israeli security website “Walla” quoted reports from Israeli security agencies alleging that Iran is attempting to recruit spies in Israel, with some citizens willing to betray their country for money.
According to “Walla,” Israel’s Shin Bet security agency has thwarted 11 espionage operations and attempts by Iran to assassinate Israeli figures since the beginning of the war.
Israeli security sources reportedly described the Iranians as determined adversaries, constantly seeking new channels for their operations.
In recent weeks, Israel has arrested several individuals on suspicion of collaborating with Iran. According to Israeli security sources, 30 individuals were arrested for similar charges, including allegations that one aimed to assassinate an Israeli nuclear scientist while others sought information on military bases and air defense systems.
In November, Israeli media reported that due to a surge in arrests of citizens accused of espionage for Iran, authorities ordered the establishment of a designated prison wing.
