WANA (August 05) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the assassination of the Hamas political bureau chief in Tehran, stating, “No one has the right to doubt Iran’s legal right to punish the aggressor and deter the usurping Zionist regime.

Kanaani described the Zionist regime’s action in assassinating Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran as a gross violation of international laws and regulations, Iran’s territorial integrity, and the political norms of the international community.

He affirmed that Iran has the right to punish the aggressor within the framework of international law. “We consider our right to defend our national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity as decisive and indisputable.

No one has the right to doubt Iran’s legal right to punish the aggressor and create deterrence against the usurping Zionist regime,” he stated.

Meeting of Islamic Foreign Ministers to be Held on Wednesday

Kanaani mentioned that necessary legal and political actions have been taken so far, and diplomatic activities condemning this assassination have been conducted at the international level. He highlighted the special session of the UN Security Council requested by Iran with the cooperation of friendly countries, including Russia and China.

Additionally, he noted that Iran proposed an extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to condemn the actions and crimes of the Zionist regime, which was welcomed by Islamic countries. Accordingly, the extraordinary meeting of the OIC foreign ministers will be held in Jeddah on Wednesday.

Iran Does Not Seek to Escalate Tensions in the Region

In response to a question, Kanaani emphasized that Iran does not seek to escalate tensions in the region, attributing the source of regional tensions to the Zionist regime, which has responded negatively to all regional and international efforts to establish stability.

He reiterated Iran’s commitment to regional stability, stating that this stability is achieved by punishing the aggressor and deterring the adventurous actions of the Zionist regime, and that the international community should support the punishment of the aggressor to create stability in the region.

No Need for Messages from the US

Responding to reports that the US has sent messages to Iran regarding a possible response to the assassination of Martyr Ismail Haniyeh and related issues, Kanaani stated that the US is a full partner of the Zionist regime, emphasizing that Iran is not responsible for escalating tensions in the region.

“The Zionist regime, with direct and unlimited support from the US, is responsible. There is no need for messages. The US should fulfill its duties and use its power to restrain the Zionist regime. The Zionist regime does not undertake adventurous actions without US coordination,” he said.

Zionist Regime Responsible for the Assassination of Martyr Haniyeh

Kanaani stated that all evidence indicates that the Zionist regime was behind the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, with statements from some Zionist officials supporting this claim.

“The Zionist regime is the first and last responsible party for this extrajudicial and terrorist crime, and Iran has the right to punish the aggressor,” he added. He further emphasized that the US should pressure the Zionist regime to stop its killings and crimes and halt the supply of weapons to the regime.

Some Claims Not Worth Denying

Regarding claims published in the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida about an American delegation visiting Iran to discuss the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh and Iran’s response, Kanaani stated that some news is not even worth denying.

He noted that any information in this regard should be provided by the Supreme National Security Council but reiterated that such claims are baseless.

No Need for Messages to a Regime We Do Not Recognize

Kanaani dismissed reports that Iran had sent a message to the Zionist regime through the Egyptian Foreign Minister, stating that Iran has no need to send messages through any party to a regime whose legitimacy it does not recognize.

No Compromise with Aggressors

In response to whether Iran might refrain from punishing the Zionist regime in exchange for concessions, Kanaani stated that Iran does not compromise on its territorial integrity and sovereignty with any party, including the Zionist regime, which adheres to no international norms or laws.

“Iran is committed to its national and territorial integrity and its people. Iran does not compromise with aggressors under any circumstances,” he emphasized. He also noted that Iran has never faltered in defending the rights of the Palestinian people.

Natural Consultation with Jordanians

Responding to a Wall Street Journal reporter’s question about an agreement between Iran and Jordan during the Jordanian Foreign Minister’s visit to Tehran on how to respond to Israel, Kanaani stated that Iran acts within the framework of international laws to secure its rights and interests and explains its positions to friendly and neighboring countries.

He added that Jordan is a friendly and regional country and one of the influential countries in the Palestinian issue. “Our consultation with the Jordanians is natural, and during this visit, we discussed the situation in Palestine and the new situation created after the assassination of Martyr Haniyeh,” he said.

Good Diplomatic Process with Egypt

Kanaani addressed the latest developments in Iran’s relations with Egypt and Bahrain, noting that following consultations and talks between Martyr Amirabdollahian, Martyr Raisi, and Egyptian officials, a roadmap for expanding relations between the two countries has been outlined, with both sides continuing their activities and consultations within this framework.

“We have a good diplomatic process with Egypt and hope to see the fruition of these diplomatic efforts within the framework of the interests of the two countries,” he stated.

Hope to Begin Talks to Resume Relations with Bahrain

Regarding relations with Bahrain, Kanaani said that Iranian and Bahraini officials have agreed to establish a joint mechanism for conducting talks to resume relations.

“We hope to witness the initiation of this mechanism and the commencement of talks to resume relations between the two countries at an appropriate time,” he added.
