Military Officers of 8 Nations Visit Iran’s Strategic Island and Strait
WANA (Jan 12) – Military officers from eight countries, currently attending a National Defense course at Iran’s Supreme National Defense University, visited the strategic island of Abu Musa and the Strait of Hormuz. Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, Senior Advisor to the Supreme Leader, led the visit.
Showcasing Iran’s Achievements in Defense
Major General Safavi stated that the scientific visit aimed to showcase Iran’s advancements in defense, security in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, energy, transit, and industry, as well as to strengthen relations with neighboring countries, including India, China, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Oman, and Yemen.
Comprehensive Tour
During the three-day visit, the foreign students toured key sites, including Shahid Rajaee Port, the Persian Gulf Star Refinery, the Hormozgan Steel Company, the shipbuilding industries, and the ecological systems of Abu Musa Island.
They also inspected the Jamaran destroyer and the naval capabilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). A meeting with Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, Commander of the IRGC Navy, was also part of the itinerary.
Importance of Defensive Diplomacy
General Safavi highlighted the role of scientific diplomacy with a focus on defense and security, emphasizing that international military student exchanges enhance defense diplomacy. He noted that many officers from various countries are currently enrolled in military courses at Iran’s Supreme National Defense University, with the approval of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
Promoting Regional Stability
He further underscored the significance of defense diplomacy in fostering peace and security among allied nations. General Safavi stressed that a shared understanding of common threats and interests requires active defensive diplomacy.
Iran, he added, actively pursues stability and security through defense, security, intelligence, economic, cultural, and political collaborations with 15 neighboring countries and Asian powers like India, China, and Russia. Iran’s involvement in organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS demonstrates its commitment to sustainable regional stability.
