Mohajerani: We Welcome Any Initiative to Lift Sanctions
WANA (Apr 20) – Iran’s government spokesperson, Fatemeh Mojaherani, stated that the indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States have been positive thus far. She added that the government welcomes any initiative aimed at lifting sanctions and securing the rights of the Iranian people.
Mojaherani, speaking about the second round of indirect talks between Iran and the U.S. held in Rome, Italy, emphasized that these discussions are being pursued within the framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ duties. She also assured that the government will not be distracted from its core responsibilities in managing the country.
The spokesperson noted that the negotiations, facilitated by Oman and conducted in a constructive environment, aim to explore practical steps to reduce tensions and create the conditions for future technical discussions.
“By mutual agreement, further consultations will take place at the expert level in the coming days, and then at a higher level in Muscat,” she said.
Mojaherani also underlined that the 14th government is diligently pursuing its primary responsibilities in various economic, social, cultural, and executive areas, and that foreign policy issues, including negotiations, are only one part of the country’s broader agenda, being followed by the relevant institutions.
In response to a question regarding the government’s expectations of the indirect talks with the U.S., she said: “According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the negotiations have been positive so far. However, as the Supreme Leader has stated, we are neither optimistic nor pessimistic about the negotiations.”
The spokesperson reiterated the government’s principled approach to foreign policy, stating: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always acted based on national interests and the dignity of the Iranian people. It also follows the principles of wisdom and expediency. We will welcome any initiative that aims at lifting sanctions and securing the rights of the Iranian people.”
