New Details on Iran’s Supreme Court Judges’ Assassination
WANA (Jan 26) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee announced the formation of a special committee to investigate various aspects of the assassination of Supreme Court judges. He stated that, based on the reports presented in today’s meeting, the assailant’s motive was not personal but rather linked to elements of sedition.
In a detailed explanation of the joint session held today between the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and the Legal and Judicial Committee, Ebrahim Rezai said: “This morning, a joint meeting of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and the Legal and Judicial Committee of the Parliament was convened at the National Security Committee’s premises to examine the incident involving the assassination of the martyred judges. The session was attended by the Judiciary’s Legal Affairs Deputy, representatives, and officials from Judiciary Security, the police, the Ministry of Intelligence, the IRGC Intelligence Organization, and the head of Tehran’s Criminal Complex.”
Rezai provided further details, noting that the assailant was a trusted service staff member who had previously worked as an office aide and received support and kindness from the two judges. “The perpetrator, a 31-year-old man, acted highly professionally. His background includes instances of recklessness and some deviations, with a record of violence in his personal life. Additionally, some of his relatives are affiliated with sedition groups. The weapon used was a Turkish-manufactured handgun. Several individuals have been summoned, detained, and interrogated in connection with this case, but further investigations are required.”
The spokesperson emphasized the possibility that the perpetrator had received training for this act. “The prevailing conclusion was that the motive behind the attack was not personal but rather connected to broader sedition-related issues.”
During the meeting, members of the National Security and Legal Committees also raised key points, including the importance of safeguarding the judiciary, its officials, and judicial premises.
Rezai concluded by stating that a joint committee would be established to investigate all case dimensions thoroughly. The committee will operate under the leadership of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and the Judicial Committee, with the cooperation of relevant agencies, to ensure an in-depth examination of the incident.
