WANA (July 23) – Opposition to Israeli teams participating in the Paris Olympics has been growing. Critics question why a country with a history of human rights violations is allowed to compete, while Russia is excluded from many sports due to its invasion of Ukraine.

In the 2024 Paris Olympics, Russia will only be represented by 14 neutral athletes without its flag, while Israel will send 88 athletes.

This comes as over 300 Palestinian athletes have been killed by Israeli forces since October 7, including members of the Palestinian national football team and Olympic coach.

The PFA has requested FIFA to suspend Israel, but FIFA has delayed the vote due to political pressure.

The lack of sanctions against Israel is attributed to its political influence and international support, particularly from Western countries.

Despite documented crimes against Palestinians, strong media and diplomatic campaigns have shielded Israel from sports sanctions.

Calls for Israel’s Ban from the 2024 Olympics

In recent months, two French parliamentarians have called for Israel’s ban from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Emar Caron stated, “Israel’s hands are stained with the blood of Gaza’s children and should not participate in the Olympics.” Another representative, Porte, emphasized that Israeli athletes should be excluded due to war crimes against innocent people.

The 2024 Paris Olympics has become one of the most controversial editions due to political issues and international pressure. Campaigns like “Ban Israel from Olympics” reflect global opposition to Israel’s participation.

The entanglement of sports and politics continues, with sports serving as a powerful platform for demonstrating power, solidarity, and political protests.

The response of international bodies, athletes, and countries to these issues will shape the future of sports and politics.
