WANA (Feb 26) – Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasizing the importance of continuing constructive regional interactions between Iran and Russia, stated that the two countries share similar views on regional issues. He added that they pursue the strengthening of their regional and international cooperation through bilateral engagements as well as within regional and international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and BRICS.

 

During a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Pezeshkian described the growing bilateral relations as positive and underscored the need to accelerate the implementation of agreements, particularly the comprehensive strategic agreement between the two countries. He emphasized that Iran and Russia have significant potential to enhance their cooperation and reaffirmed Tehran’s determination to deepen its engagement with Moscow.

 

The Iranian president reiterated the importance of maintaining constructive regional interactions between the two nations, stressing their shared perspectives on regional matters and their commitment to strengthening cooperation through direct bilateral efforts and participation in international frameworks such as the SCO, EAEU, and BRICS.

 

For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov conveyed President Putin’s warm greetings to President Pezeshkian and stated, “I fully agree with your remarks and will do everything in my power to ensure the continuation and acceleration of our growing cooperation, particularly in implementing our mutual agreements, including the comprehensive strategic agreement.”

 

Lavrov also highlighted Iran’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union as a new and effective opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in economic and trade sectors. He noted that Iran and Russia have numerous shared interests in continuing their effective regional cooperation.
